Blog/Article Review

Feature Shoot
Classic Statues Photographed as Everyday Hipsters
by JULIA SABOT on JUNE 11, 2013

Feature Shoot is a blog composed of many different photographers with a variety of themes. The curator is Alison Zavos of Austin, Texas and her editors are Amanda Gorence of Brooklyn, Matthew Leifheit of New York city, and Tess Parks an intern from Toronto, Canada. All of them of different backgrounds and culture. The blog has over 3000 international photographers, so it has lots to look at. It is very well organized, it has themes of all kinds (beauty, food, culture, etc.) that you can search by month, artist, key word, and location. The way its outlined is very visually appealing, from the actual featured being the biggest on the screen to the small spotlight to the right of it. They also have space for all their sponsors. They seem to post a couple of collections everyday, most of their post reflect a variety of subjects. The whole blog is Photography based.

In looking through the blog, I came across a collection by Leo Caillard, a photographer from Paris. Julia Sabot assisted him in his project of "addressing representation" through clothing. The article demonstrates how simple unclothed "iconic figures" become all of the sudden part of the 21st century. Leo Caillard's work is contemporary or as he describes it " “what if reality was not as we see it...?” I enjoyed looking at his work, i couldn't stare at it enough. At first i was like how did he do it? How did he put the clothes on the statue? Or maybe the statues were really people dressed like statues, Ha! then i read the article, still it baffled me. I have linked Leo and Julia's name if you guys want to learn more about both of them.
